10 Kitchen Essentials

I am always amazed when I take a stroll through a kitchen store, at how many of the items for sale are unnecessary, useless, money-making-grabs that will most likely just end up in the back of a drawer, completely forgotten about in a couple of weeks.  Vegetable chopper, anyone?  How about a machine that will peel your apple’s for you?  A potato chipper?  Mushroom slicer?  Avocado slicer?  Egg separator?  Strawberry stem remover?  These gadgets were designed to appeal to our lazy sides.. but the ironic fact of the matter is, they often require more clean-up and fiddling with than just whipping out a vegetable peeler or a knife and doing the work yourself.  And in the end, do they really save you that much time during prep?  Add on the extra clean-up time and you don’t come out much ahead, if at all.
